For our project, “Addressing the Working Conditions and Access to Health care for Women Domestic Workers in Peru (ANITA)”, we received training in Respondent-Driven Sampling (RDS) methodology.
On January 18, 2023, a total of 36 people from the research teams of CRONICAS Center of Excellence in Chronic Diseases of the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH) in Peru, the Upstream Lab (Canada), and IMEK Research Center in Marketing & Development (Colombia) participated in a virtual training offered by professors and researchers in Toronto, Canada.
Training in RDS was carried out because this method of chain referral sampling will allow us to engage populations that are difficult to reach or in vulnerable situations. RDS recruitment enables chain recruitment by participants themselves: based on the recruitment of peers, the research team selects some initial participants, or “seeds”, to participate in the study and also to recruit more of their peers later. In the training, we delved into the process and statistical analysis required to conduct RDS. In addition, we had time to resolve questions and discuss what was presented.
